OU men open with win
NORMAN – Steven Pledger led for Sooners in double figures as the Oklahoma men’s basketball team opened the 2012-13 season with an 85-51 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.
Pledger was 5 of 10 from the field, all five coming from three-point range, as the Sooners won their 35th straight non-conference game at home and the 26th of their last 28 season openers.
Amath M’Baye fell one rebound short of a double-double as he finished with nine rebounds to go along with his 12 points. Andrew Fitzgerald matched M’Baye’s point total with 12 while Je’lon Hornbeak finished the quartet of double-figure scorers with 10 points.
TU-Manning era begins with rout
TULSA – Freshman James Woodard led four players in double-figures as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane opened the Danny Manning era with a 110-54 victory over the LSU-Shreveport Pilots at the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Sunday in Tulsa.
Woodard’s 28-point performance was the best opening night for a Tulsa freshman since Shea Seals scored 33 points in a 128-63 victory over Houston Baptist in the 1993 season opener.
The last time Tulsa opened the season with a 100-point game was the 2001 season opener when the Hurricane posted a 104-61 victory over Grambling State.
