OKLAHOMA STATE 69, BAYLOR 67, OT – Markel Brown’s lay-in with two-tenths of a second left — which followed a blocked shot at the other end by teammate Michael Cobbins — lifted No. 22 Oklahoma State to a win over Baylor on Wednesday night and extended the Cowboys’ winning streak to four games.

Marcus Smart scored 14 points, albeit on 4-of-21 shooting, and Brown added 13 for Oklahoma State (16-5, 6-3 Big 12 Conference), which blew a 14-point lead in the final 7:40 of regulation and twice trailed by three points in overtime. The Cowboys found a way to win despite shooting 36.1 percent from the field (26 of 72) and 14.3 percent from 3-point range (3 of 21).

“It was just a very gutsy performance by our guys,” Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford said. “I thought they hung in there. We’ve figured out some crazy ways to win games lately.”

Baylor (14-8, 5-4) had a chance to win, but Cobbins blocked a shot attempt by A.J. Walton under the basket with about six seconds left.

Oklahoma State hasn’t lost since falling to Baylor on Jan. 21 in Waco, Texas. The Cowboys’ streak includes a road win on Saturday at No. 2 Kansas, an effort that vaulted Oklahoma State back into the Top 25.

Baylor lost its third straight game, its longest losing streak six dropping six straight in 2009.

UAB 70, TULSA 63 – UAB built a 24-point first half lead and held off Tulsa for a 70-63 road victory in front of 4,147 fans at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. A banged up Tulsa team battled from behind the entire game as the hot-shooting Blazers shot 55-percent from the field and 45-percent from three-point range for the game.

Tulsa fell to 12-11 overall and 4-5 in Conference USA play as the Hurricane dropped its third straight contest. UAB improved to 10-13 and 2-6 in league action.

The Blazers were led by Rod Rucker’s 17 points, while Quincy Taylor chipped in with 14 and Terence Jones had 13 points. Tulsa’s Rashad Ray came off the bench to score 17 points, while Pat Swilling added 11 points and Shaquille Harrison 10 points.

 



 Women

OKLAHOMA 74, KANSAS STATE 68 —  At Manhattan, Kan., Aaryn Ellenberg scored 18 points and Sharane Campbell added 14 for the No. 23 Sooners (17-5, 7-3 Big 12), who beat the Wildcats (12-10, 3-7) for the 11th straight time.

All five OU starters scored in double figures as the Sooners made 10 of 20 3-point attempts and were 16-of-18 from the free throw line.

Morgan Hook totaled 11 points, eight assists and just one turnover in 38 minutes. Nicole Griffin scored 13 points. Joanna McFarland recorded her league-leading sixth double-double in conference play with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

The Sooners held off the Wildcats, who were within 3 points with 2 1/2 minutes remaining. Haley Texada scored 25 points to lead Kansas State.
