NORMAN — Oklahoma officials say a member of the wrestling squad has died after a battle with cancer.
According to a statement, Ronnie Balfour died Tuesday at a hospital in Houston following a year-long fight against Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. He was 20.
Balfour was a freshman last year and would have graduated from Oklahoma in 2015. He won a state title as a senior at Union High School in Tulsa and was among the nation’s top-ranked college recruits after being named a Junior National All-American.
The Oklahoma Athletics Department is accepting donations to pay for Balfour’s medical bills.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
