Oklahoma has been picked to win its eighth Big 12 Conference championship in the 2012 Big 12 football preseason poll, voted on by media representatives who cover the conference.
The Sooners received 32 of 41 first-place votes and totaled 396 points. OU has won seven league titles since 2000, including four of the last six. Defending champion Oklahoma State received 267 points to finish just shy of Texas in third and just ahead of newcomer TCU — which received 260 points, including a first-place vote.
West Virginia, which is entering its first season as a Big 12 member, was chosen second with 339 points and garnered seven first-place votes. Texas was picked third, followed by OSU, TCU and Kansas State, which also received a first-place vote. Baylor, Iowa State, Texas Tech and Kansas rounded out the poll.
West Virginia won the Big East Conference title last season. TCU, which is also entering its first season as a Big 12 member, won the Mountain West Conference title last season.
