Jerry Tubbs, a former University of Oklahoma All-American at linebacker in 1956, died Friday. He was 77.
The Throckmorton, Texas native made three interceptions in one game against the Texas Longhorns in 1955. During 1956, Tubbs was the first Sooner to receive the Walter Camp Award, given to the player of the year, and was also named Lineman of the Year by UPI.
He was the 10th player taken in the 1957 draft by the Chicago Cardinals. Tubbs was taken by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1960 expansion draft where he finished his career before becoming an assistant coach with Dallas for 21 seasons.
He became the 12th Sooner player to be inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame on Dec. 10, 1996.
