Prep baseball
ROFF 11, OKTAHA 3 – The Tigers fell to 1-7 on the season with the loss to Roff at the Byng Tournament.
Daceauda Davis took the loss and his record fell to 0-4. Caleb Shoemake was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Josh Sparrow was 1-for-3 with a home run, his first of the season in the fourth inning.
Oktaha is off until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Dale.
BATTIEST 8, BRAGGS 3 — The Wildcats (3-7) were eliminated at the Whitesboro Tournament as Rowdy Emsinger (0-2) was the losing pitcher and Tanner Cohen drove in two runs.
Braggs plays at home 4 p.m. Tuesday against Panola.
Prep fastpitch softball
LADY ROUGHERS SPLIT – The Muskogee fastpitch softball team split its two games at the Moore Festival on Friday
Muskogee (8-5) lost to Westmoore, No. 2 in the Okrankings.com Class 6A poll, 4-1 but came back to beat Class 6A No. 5 Moore 6-2.
Paige Gann (4-3) absorbed the loss in the first game, pitching six innings and giving up four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Shaylee Rowland (4-2) got the win in game two, giving up two runs on four hits while Gann earned the save.
Hannah Alexander and Aubrey Johnson were both 1-for-2 with a walk in the opener with Johnson driving in a run while Bailee Hendrickson was 1-for-1. In the second game, Dee Emarthle, Johnson and Jessi Venable got two hits each with Johnson driving in two runs while Emarthle drove in one and Venable scored two runs. Brook Hendrickson also had an RBI in the second game.
HALL OF FAME TOURNAMENT – Hilldale got five RBIs from Toni McMillan as the Lady Hornets defeated Colbert 12-1. Hillary Calver had three hits and Casady Mills had two. Winning pitcher Destiny Riddle struck out five batters and gave up just two hits as she improved to 9-1.
Hilldale (9-2) plays Perkins-Tryon at 10 a.m. and defending Class 2A state champion Panama at 1 p.m. at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Checotah Lady Wildcats dropped both of their games on Friday in the Hall of Fame Tournament in Oklahoma City. Elgin beat Checotah (5-8) in game one 3-2 while the Lady Wildcats lost to Rush Springs 6-3 in the second game.
Taylor Davidson started both contests as her record fell to 5-8. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate in game two.
In game one, Reagan Burge and Kori Carmack were both 1-for-3 with Burge driving in two runs. Game two saw Kelsey Casey go 2-for-3 with a solo home run, her first of the season in the fifth.
College soccer
OU 3, NICHOLLS ST. 1 – The Oklahoma soccer team improved to 2-1 on the season after recording a season-high goals en route to a victory over Nicholls State on Friday night in Norman.
Sophomore Kelly Price tripled her career goals total with two scores and Renae Cuellar scored her team-leading third goal of the season. It marked Price’s first appearance of the 2012 season and first goal since finding the back of the net against Missouri in 2011.
The loss dropped Nicholls State to 1-2 on the season and the game marked the first meeting between the teams.
OSU 3, VANDERBILT 1 — The Oklahoma State University women’s soccer rolled to a 3-1 victory over Vanderbilt in Stillwater on Friday.
The Cowgirls (3-0), who scored two goals combined in last weekend’s victories of UMKC and Weber State, scored their first goal in the opening half — for the first time this season.
The goal came with just under 15 minutes left in the half as freshman Allie Stephenson worked her way through the Vanderbilt defenders to score the first goal of her Cowgirl career.
Cowgirl senior forward Megan Marchesano, one of OSU’s top attackers last year, also registered her first goal of the young season. Marchesano capitalized on a misplayed ball in the box by Vandy’s defense to give OSU a 2-0 lead less than seven minutes into the second half.
NOTRE DAME 2, TULSA 0 – The Tulsa women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to 13th-ranked Notre Dame on Friday night in front of a record 1,707 fans at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium in Tulsa. TU fell to 1-1 on the season, while ND moved to 1-1 overall.
Notre Dame’s Elizabeth Tucker dribbled in from the left side and punched in a goal from 15 yards out into the upper right corner of the net at the 12:41 mark for the game-winning goal. Tucker scored again in the 19th minute from the left side from 10 yards out.
Claire Hulcer and Rebecca Handley each had two shots to lead the Golden Hurricane attack, while Hayley Harryman logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up seven saves.
The Fighting Irish had a 16-8 lead in shots, including a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal, and a 6-2 lead in corner kicks.
College volleyball
OU 3, MISSOURI STATE 1 – The Oklahoma women's volleyball team (1-0) won its season-opener for the fifth time in six years, defeating Missouri State 25-19, 24-26, 25-17 and 25-23 on Friday evening at McCasland Field House in Norman.
Senior Morgan Reynolds led the way for the Sooners with 37 kills, while senior Maria Fernanda led all players with 17 digs as Oklahoma moved to 7-2 under head coach Santiago Restrepo in lid-lifters.
The Nike Invitational continues Saturday with a pair of OU matches, first vs. Western Michigan at noon the OU also plays host to Tulsa at 7 p.m.
TU 3, WESTERN MICHIGAN 0 – Senior Tyler Henderson tallied 28 kills to propel The University of Tulsa volleyball squad to a sweep of Western Michigan 25-21, 25-19, 25-19 at the Nike Invitational on Friday night.
The Golden Hurricane (1-0) claimed its fifth-straight season opening victory in the first matchup between the two squads at McCasland Field House on the campus of The University of Oklahoma.
On the match, Henderson had an attack percentage of .571 to pace the Hurricane.
Junior Kellie Culbertson, who collected 14 double-doubles last year, had 14 digs and 10 kills on the night. Senior Diana Silva came close to a double-double with 15 digs and 9 kills, while fellow senior Jessica Adams paced the squad with 17 digs. In her Blue and Gold debut, freshmen Maura McGivern collected 7 kills and had a .400 attack clip.
