Connors learns of

first-round foe




WARNER – The Connors State Cowboys, who will be making their seventh trip to the NJCAA National Tournament under head coach Bill Muse and their first since 2010, will open first round tournament play against Motlow (Tenn.) State at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19  at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kan.

The Cowboys (24-8), who are the 19th seed, received an at-large berth after finishing as the runner-up in the Region II Tournament this past Saturday in Shawnee.

Motlow (Tenn.) State with a 25-3 record is the 14th seed in the tournament. Motlow won the Region 7 championship, defeating Jackson (Tenn.) State 88-82.

The winner advances to the quarterfinals against the No. 3 seed Central Florida (30-3) on March 20 at 6 p.m.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Northeastern State men’s golf team fell to seventh place in the 11-team field after Monday’s second round of the 2013 Bash at the Beach at  the Surf Golf and Beach Club.

The RiverHawks carded a team score of 299, and they are now 20-over par with a two-round total of 588 (289-299).

 Senior Kyle Fouts paces NSU with a two-day total of even-par 142 (68-74). Junior Zach Tucker made the biggest move of the day for the RiverHawks, jumping 10 spots to sit in a tie for 47th at 11-over 153 (79-74). He shot a 41 on the front nine and closed with a back-side 33.

 Freshman Jackson Hess is alone in 34th at 6-over 148 (74-74). Senior Jacob Bartel (74-77) and sophomore Jonas Granel (73-78) are both tied for 41st at 9-over 151.

The final round will be played today.



Four ORU women named All-SLC



TULSA – Oral Roberts’s Kevi Luper was named First Team All-Southland Conference on Monday, while Jaci Bigham was named to the All-Southland Conference second team. Luper was also honored with a spot on the Southland Conference’s All-Defensive Team.

Additionally, freshman Taylor Cooper and redshirt junior Sarah Shelton received All-Southland Conference Honorable Mention honors.

Luper averaged 19.3 points per game led the league with 2.6 steals per game. Bigham averaged 12.3 points per game and led the Southland Conference in assists, at 6.9 per game.

Cooper earned the Honorable Mention distinction after scoring 10.2 points per game as a rookie, second-best among Southland Conference freshmen. Shelton averaged 9.1 points per game in her first season as a member of ORU’s active roster, and she upped that production to 10.8 points per game in conference play.

DB coach




STILLWATER – Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy announced today the hiring of Tim Duffie to coach defensive backs.

Duffie comes to Stillwater after spending the 2012 season coaching the secondary at Wake Forest. In his lone season at Wake, the Demon Deacons led the Atlantic Coast Conference and ranked 25th nationally in turnover margin.

Prior to his time at Wake Forest, Duffie spent 2008-11 at Colorado State. He was cornerbacks coach from 2008-10 and then coached the entire Rams secondary in 2011. He served as CSU’s primary recruiter for the state of Texas.
