THE PEOPLE SPEAK – World is full of pundits

— Any good dictionary lists the definition of pundit as, “a learned man/teacher.” There is, however, a second meaning which this writer will leave to the reader’s curiosity and investigation.

While there may well be genuine, authentic pundits out in the public debate/discussion arena, this writer submits that another group (pundits) exists during political events. They are the people who express/expound opinions about a subject or topic they know little or nothing. Some come from politicians, themselves. Not all fall into that category, just a few.

This writer’s tongue is in his cheek. There’s a nursery rhyme jingle which goes, “here a pundit, there a pundit, everywhere a pundit.” What is sad is that some political pundits believe what they say is true. They are within their 1st Amendment rights, aren’t they? A lot of the rhetoric, if a monetary value could be ascribed to it, could go a long way to pay down the national debt. Oops. Then again, people are stimulated to read more, listen to other points of view, no matter the source. Third world countries do not have that advantage.
