THE PEOPLE SPEAK – The right answer is vote for America

— There has been a lot of criticism about Obama’s handling of the economy that was created by the former President Bush. However, the scorched earth opposition of the current Republicans have done everything they could to get in the way. They have blocked most of the Democratic policies, in hopes of taking back the White House, by claiming that their policies have failed.

If the Republicans win this election, they want to repeal Obamacare, end Medicare, privatize Social Security, and give more tax breaks to the billionaires that don’t need them. The Republican Party has changed so much that they completely ignore what their previous presidents have said. On Nov. 8, 1954, President Eisenhower stated, “Should any political party attempt to abolish Social Security, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history.”

I read a cartoon version of the pledge of allegiance which said, “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the corporate states of America, and to the Republicans for which it stands, one nation, under debt, easily divisible, with liberty and justice for oil.” It’s humorous if it weren’t so true.

It’s too bad that my children and grandchildren cannot belong to Tom Brokaw’s “Greatest Generation,” as I have. This isn’t what I fought for in World War II and spent my career in the military to obtain.

One last quote, economist John Kenneth Galbraith said, “The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in more philosophy, and this is the search for superior justification for selfishness.”

Remember, allegiance to a political party is not the answer. The right answer is to vote for America.
