There are many reasons our area is a great place to live.
The compassion of our people is just one of those reasons.
Look no further than the 2010 Lake Area United Way campaign.
Local donors contributed $657,565 through the United Way, combined federal campaign and the state charitable campaign.
That’s about $2,500 short of the campaign record set in 2007.
If you consider the times — recession, high unemployment, rising costs — it is remarkable to see the depth of the compassion of our neighbors.
The donations will go to help 18 member nonprofit organizations do the good work necessary to make this a better place to live.
The total is impressive, but then again, so are the people around here.
