Thank you - 6.30.12

— BASEBALL FOR the little ones is over or almost for this year and I want to thank all the coaches who took their time to coach or encourage. It makes wonderful memories for all the kids. It is something they will never forget.

If you had a part in it, I would like to thank you for your effort. Who knows we may one day have a player for the big leagues and for the Fort Gibson Tigers.

I WOULD LIKE to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers and sponsors that made Ride for the Vet Bike Rally a great success. Our visitors had an opportunity to visits some of the attractions and meet new friends. It was a pleasure giving back to our veterans. And we look forward to helping the veterans next year.

TO THE FAMILY of Mrs. Elizabeth Duncan, thank you for allowing me to be the recipient of the first Elizabeth Duncan Scholarship. It is really a honor to be recognized by the family of this great lady. I will use the scholarship to further my education at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami. It’s great that I can now really be considered an official “Mama Liz Kid.”

Thank you.

ON BEHALF of the Wainwright Community Center, I would like to thank everyone for supporting our Bean Supper and Pie Auction held on June 9.

We are indebted to everyone who helped make the night a success. Thank you to everyone who made baked goods or donated items for the auction. Thank you to the candidates and citizens for your generous bids. Thank you to our great auctioneer and staff. Thank you to all who helped to promote this event, and a special thank you to our committee of women who prepared the food.

The Wainwright Community Center feeds over 100 people weekly.  All proceeds from the evening go to the Wainwright Community Center. Again, we say thank you for your support and we hope all in attendance had as much fun as we did.

WE WANTED to take a moment and share our extreme gratitude for the outpour of love and condolences from our son’s passing. On May 16, our precious Jacob Dillon went home to be with Jesus.

In the meantime, there have been some misunderstandings that we would like to clear up. Even though a memorial fund was established two days after Jake left us, the announcement didn’t make it to print until five weeks later. The announcement stated that the account would be used to defray any funeral expenses. However, Jacob’s uncles from Garrett Family Funeral Home graciously covered his final arrangements, casket and burial. We couldn’t be more grateful.

In no way did we have any intentions of fraud or that any funds would be misappropriated. We deeply apologize for any hurt feelings or misconceptions.

A friend suggested the memorial account be established so that anyone who would want to give to help cover any expenses incurred due to being off work, emergency services, and other medical expenses, could do so. This friend never imagined we might be faced with others wanting to cause shame and hurt to our family in a time of grief and mourning. All this chaos in addition to his obituary somehow getting overlooked being printed.

Again, thanks to Garrett Family Funeral Home and to all those offering prayers and support to our family.

Joe Garrett
