Touching tribute
to grandfather
I was so touched when I read Mr. Hogan’s letter to the editor on Aug. 1.
My grandfather was Neill Lefors, the Vo-Ag teacher at Checotah High School, until his passing on Dec. 18, 1968. I have not seen Raymond Carey in many years, but remember him coming by my grandmother’s house to check on her and see if she needed anything after granddad passed, and did so until she passed in June 1988.
My mother was Raedean Lefors Bear and she always spoke very highly of Mr. Carey. We lost our mother in Dec. 2008. I know she would be so proud and honored should the Checotah community/school system approve the name change.

Witnessing the
Olympic miracle
Once every two years, the world witnesses a miracle — when nations from all over the world come together united as one. The spectacular theatrics warm our hearts as we watch athletes from countries from each corner of our world embrace one another.
In 2012, England graciously honored two segments of society that have lately been much ignored — construction workers (the middle class) and youth. As I listen to Paul McCartney sing, I see young people of all colors, languages, religions, and political points of view dance and hug one another.
Earlier, an honor guard of 500 construction workers was honored for their quality workmanship that played an important part of making this year’s Summer Olympics a huge success. Danny Boyle even specifically mentioned their contribution to television audiences worldwide. His decision to highlight youth who will shape our world in coming years was the highlight of my evening.
We must appreciate our workers who build and maintain our buildings and our infrastructure. We must also appreciate our youth who will build a world that is safer and more tolerant in the future.
Thank you, London. Thank you, Danny Boyle, for showing us what most of us already know. Workers are the lifeblood of our economies and youth are the lifeblood of our futures.
