THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Former Tulsa mayor next governor?

— Kathy Taylor should put on her big girl panties and deal with it. The former Tulsa mayor can be Tulsa’s next Governor of Oklahoma in 2014. Here’s how: We, Democrats, are hurting for a tough-as-nails candidate to retire Tea Party Republican, Gov. Mary Fallin. Taylor has a perfect resume, a lawyer, experience running the state’s second largest city, a good recruiter of business and industry, and an aide to former Gov. Brad Henry. She will also have Henry’s support.

In 2010, we Democrats, showed we are willing to vote for a qualified woman for Governor when Lt. Gov. Jari Askins upset Attorney General Drew Edmondson in the primary. Only three Democrats can match Taylor’s name recognition, former Gov. David Boren, former Congressman Dan Boren, and former OU football coach Barry Switzer. Little Boren has bowed out of the race and Big Boren and Switzer have other fish to fry.

Taylor has figured Tulsa out, something our last Tulsa governor, Frank Keating, was unable to do. Tulsans prefer governors to be millionaires and Taylor meets that qualification. Taylor has a Tulsa mansion fitting for a governor so she can do the state’s business there in grand style.

Taylor also plunked down more than $1 million to become mayor and should be willing to do the same to get her campaign going. She has her own jet to make trips around the state a piece of cake.

She just needs to remember Gov. Henry Bellmon’s description of the job, “A lot of people look at the governor as kind of a low-paid movie star. They want to shake hands, get their autograph and tell folks they did.”
