Pearson deserves another term

Both men who are running for Muskogee County Sheriff have extensive law enforcement backgrounds and a passion for serving the citizens of our county.

One — incumbent Sheriff Charles Pearson — has presided over an era of tremendous change in the sheriff’s office.

The other — challenger Roger Lee — has a commendable history of service.

We respect Lee’s passion.

We respect Lee’s feeling that every election should have at least two choices.

However, Pearson has shown great growth professionally and guided his department through a major transition.

The sheriff’s office has more money, more deputies and state-of-the-art technology.

Major improvements have been made to the jail as well.

Pearson was able to facilitate the completion of the county-wide E-911 system. The system links law enforcers and first-responders to cut down on response time.

Pearson’s department is transparent. He holds himself accountable to the people.

Pearson has vision. He will make every effort to push through a new justice center for Muskogee.

That’s why the Phoenix Editorial Board endorses Pearson.
