Grants provide for our future

— Our future belongs to our children.

You don’t need Whitney Houston to remind you of that fact.

The City of Muskogee Foundation’s summer 2013 grants indicate their understanding, too.

The foundation recently awarded more than $240,000 in grants to a variety of summer youth programs for next year.

That is a more than a 20 percent increase over last year.

The programs include camps designed to serve children with autism spectrum disorders and students interested in health care careers.

Other grant recipients will offer a variety of mentoring programs that promote literacy, self-esteem and community service.

Muskogee Public Schools will receive $100,000 for its Summer Pride program — a no-cost program that focuses on mental and academic training, physical training and character training for about 700 students.

We can’t invest enough in our children’s future.

The foundation’s awards are a tiny price to pay if the programs make life better for our children.

Muskogee can’t afford to let any child slip through the cracks.

With the help of the foundation, many organizations are working toward making sure that does not happen.
