THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Make your demands known to Washington

— America is $16 trillion in debt, and we borrow 50 cents of every dollar our government spends. Millions of our people are without jobs. Some of our cities and counties are already bankrupt, and others are in danger. Wall Street owns too many of our congressmen, and continued misconduct in the banking industry is destroying the world economy.

So, what should we do? Well, this is an election season, the time when you should be taking charge and making your demands known to the people you send to Washington.

We are far beyond the “Cut taxes and reduce government” simplicity, and focusing on such polarizing issues as guns, gays, and abortion is the path to disaster. Instead, we should be demanding answers to serious questions such as the following:

How can we restore the purchasing power of the U.S. dollar and ensure that it will be the soundest currency in the world? How can we deal with the international crime syndicate called too-big-to-fail banks? How can we cut government spending in a helpful way instead of crashing the economy? How can Obamacare be improved to cut costs and improve health care? How can misguided government regulations be reduced and common sense restored? Can the candidates intelligently discuss foreign economic and political matters and how they relate to us? And, yes, how can more jobs be created? Let’s survive first and argue ideology if we do. Above all, will he be “untouchable” or “Wall Street’s man?
