The hiring of a new Hilldale Schools superintendent was a big undertaking for the school board.
The new hire will replace 19-year Superintendent D.B. Merrill, who is retiring in June.
The board has chosen Bixby Schools Associate Superintendent Dr. Kaylin Coody.
Coody has been associate superintendent since 2008 and brings with her good people skills, board members said.
That’s a significant skill. Especially for a superintendent.
Coody will have students, staff, and teachers to motivate or manage on a daily basis. And that does not even mention the parents and community members waiting to be heard.
But, that is the job Coody agreed to accept.
And that is the job waiting for her July 1.
Board President Shawn Kuykendall said board members were impressed with Coody’s experience and personal skills.
As associate superintendent, Coody said, she handled a variety of jobs and was not confined to one area such as curriculum or personnel.
“She deals well with people,” Kuykendall said.
He said the one thing that struck him about Coody was “maybe her openness.”
“She’s very easy to talk to,” he said.
Experience and people skills sound like a winning combination.
