THE PEOPLE SPEAK: Spend more money fixing the streets

In the May 2 Letter to the Editor, the paper had a write-up on Muskogee streets. It stated that Muskogee has average streets for it size. A pavement condition index of 59, which I don’t believe. To maintain the roads in its present condition we would have to spend $2.7 million annually.

It then said if we spend $900,000 a year we can raise the quality by 10 points. What is wrong with this statement? It doesn’t take a scientist to figure it won’t compute.

This is why Muskogee is stuck in a rut. We don’t try to be better, we try to get by. Take the interest from the hospital money, put it to use for all of Muskogee and fix the streets and other infrastructure. We all talk of the city needing to be at its best to bring in business but we do nothing.

The Muskogee Phoenix should stand up and support the community not the city leaders, if it looks wrong don’t support it.

The hospital money would be well spent and every citizen would get back something in way of their vehicles not wearing out as fast and to say “well this looks nice.”

Muskogee is finally being a city that truly wants to grow instead of survive which it’s not doing that very good.
