THE PEOPLE SPEAK – Voter turnout disappointing

— My friend and acquaintance Rob Wallace won his bid to be the Democratic nominee for Oklahoma’s 2nd District Congressional seat. That’s the good news. The bad news is that only approximately 5,100 of registered Muskogee County voters voted. Voting is an American privilege that so many have died for us to have yet so few participate in this part of our American heritage.

We want a better Muskogee; we want a U.S. Congress that works for the people and not just the special interest groups; but we can’t or won’t ever get what we think is best if voters continue to stay home. You can’t just care with your mouth or mood, but have to show you care with your vote. Politicians and pundits say and do things every day to hurt working families, seniors and children’s educational opportunities while registered voters who can make a difference stay home and grumble about everything that’s wrong.

My advice, put your mouth where your hands are and use those hands to vote. Stop talking and start voting.
