A tremendous amount of consideration must come before choosing any branding campaign for Muskogee.
That’s the feeling of the top executive at the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce.
“Whichever brand we choose will take a considerable amount of commitment, effort, and funds to achieve and so will be considered carefully before a final decision is made,” Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer Treasure McKenzie told the Phoenix this week.
We believe a tremendous amount of public input also is needed before any final decision.
A consultant, hired by the chamber, has said his top choice is “Warrior City.”
McKenzie said that is one of several themes being considered.
She said ideas that have been discussed include music, gardening, medieval times and touting Muskogee as a “festival city.”
We are anxious to hear the ideas.
This brand must be something that immediately identifies Muskogee to anyone who hears the slogan.
New York City did not become the Big Apple overnight.
And Muskogee won’t be synonymous with any brand without a lot of work.
For the brand to take hold, it must be embraced by a majority of Muskogee’s citizens.
About half of all Muskogee citizens don’t seem to like the song “Okie from Muskogee,” even though that song is recognizable throughout the United States.
The next brand should be vetted with residents before a final decision is made.
