I am a 74-year-old white male, born and reared in Oklahoma. I have lived in Oklahoma all my life and I’m proud of our state and our country. However, it is appalling to me that our state legislature has passed very little meaningful legislation that will be beneficial to our state. With the most prominent law enacted the open carry law. We are not living in the days of Gunsmoke and Bonanza.
On the national scene, our U.S. Congress is worse, refusing to work together to pass any legislation that would help our unemployment and our economy. It seems the only thing they are interested in is which party holds the power. The county and people don’t matter.
Think what our country would be like if we didn’t pay taxes. No law enforcement, fire protection, military, roads, public schools, government, and the list could go on. Everyone of us have someone we know or we are related to who holds a job in these professions.
Personally, I like good roads, good schools for my children and grandchildren, like to go to bed feeling safe and secure, and know that we have those who are watching over our country.
I have lived through those days of bad roads, no electricity, running water, and no sanitary facilities. Those were not the good old days.
