Ruth I. Stout

1922 - 2009



Ruth I. Stout, 87, longtime Muskogee resident passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the Haskell County Hospital. A native of Kinta, she was born June 16, 1922 to William Henry Brown and Rhoda Bell Warren. She grew up in Haskell County and was married to Melvin Stout on September 23, 1939 in Stigler. They made their home together in Porum for many years before settling in Muskogee in the early 1950’s. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her children and grandchildren, she was considered as the heart of the family. Her grandchildren adored her.

She is survived by one sister, Virginia Galloway of McAlester; seven grandchildren, Thomacina Stoneburner, Phillip Johnson, Melvin Johnson, Shayme Johnson, Lisa Stout, Melanie Stout, and John Stout; three great grandchildren, Dana Stoneburner, Thomas and Lukas Taylor; 3 great great grandchildren; her in-laws, Mona Stout, Bill and Geneva Mooney, Bob and Bobbie Shoemake, and Wayne Stout.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Stout; two sons, Harold Gene Stout and Kenneth Wayne Stout; one daughter, Phyllis June Johnson; one brother, William Brown; four sisters, Annace Brittain, Tennie Riley, Elizabeth Butler, and Gladys Brown; one great grandson, Daniel Stoneburner.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 14, 2009 at the R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with Reverend Joe Don Spears officiating. The Eulogist will be Reverend Bob Shoemake. Pallbearers will be Larry, Jack, and Darren Brittian, Roger Spicer, John Stout, and Damon Spears. Honorary pallbearers include Phillip and Melvin Johnson. Burial will follow at Coleman Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
