David L. “Uncle Dave” Overby, Jr.

1936 – 2009


David L. “Uncle Dave” Overby, 73, of Muskogee passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009. He was born in Muskogee March 31, 1936 to David L. & Gertrude (Bales) Overby.

Dave graduated from Muskogee Central High School. He married his bride of fifty years, Rose Overheu, March 14, 1959. Following his service in the Navy, Dave worked as a missile tester at Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station in California.

After his retirement, Uncle Dave enjoyed keeping busy making wooden toys and later unique bottle lamps and hummingbird feeders. You may have seen him and his wife at Fin and Feather during the Fall Festival. He was a member of Local FRA.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rose of the home; sons, David Overby of California and Dawn Jepson of Virginia; four grandchildren, Matthew, Danielle, and Tyler Jepson and Michael Overby, Jr.; sisters, Linda (Overby) Tinney and Robbie (Coffey) Bass, both of Garland TX; and cousin, Lavonne Totten of Bixby, OK. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Joyce (Overby) Mansker, and his son, Michael J. Overby.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of “Uncle Dave” will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Bradley Belltower Chapel with Reverend Bryan Brooks officiating.
