After a long & courageous battle with cancer, John “Curtis” Black passed from this life on Friday, March 12, 2010. Curtis was born in Chicago, IL on April 1, 1950 to John and Paula Black. He was raised in Corning AR and lived most of his adult life in Muskogee, OK. His good tastes led him to a degree in Culinary Arts School from Okmulgee Tech in 1972. His career included cooking for Oral Roberts University, Furrs, Bacone College, Muskogee Country Club, The Leake Family, Muskogee Regional Medical Center and Grace Living Center. He enjoyed his time at home, and especially with his 6 dogs. A train collector and friend who will be cherished for his zest for life. His kind, compassionate and nurturing demeanor will never be forgotten as will his infectious smile he had for everyone.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include life partner of 24 years, Jerry Ellis, of the home; 3 sisters Jennifer Black and husband Lonnie of Memphis, TN, Dr. Pamela Black of Albuquerque, NM, and Ann Decker and husband Neil of Dallas, TX; extended family Jennifer Holland and Michael Croteau; nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
A memorial service has been planned to celebrate Curtis’ life for Saturday, Mar. 20, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the Foster-Petering’s Ivory Funeral Home Chapel, Muskogee, with the Rev. Steve Dennis officiating. The family asks that memorials be made in Curtis’ name to the American Cancer Society, 3000 United Founders Blvd., Suite 136, Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
