The sun rose on Rodell Howard Walker on October 17, 1903 in Beaumont, TX to Jack and Jenny Scott Howard, Rodell was the third of five children. Rodell later moved to Ft. Gibson, OK where she met and married Mr. Lincoln Walker, on December 22, 1922. Nine children were added to this union. The Walker family moved to Sugar Creek, OK where she worked at the Sugar Creek School. An active and resourceful woman, Rodell enjoyed fishing, farming, cooking, traveling and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She remained active through to her later years, just short of her sunset and homegoing on March 15, 2010. Rodell was the last of her family’s generation to rest.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lincoln, daughter, Arline Murray, son, Lincoln Jr., her sisters, Claria Hughes, Meck Brown and Waurika Thomas and her brother, L.E. Howard. The family she leaves to mourn her are five sons, James Walker, Los Angeles, CA, Luther Walker, Taft, OK, Elijay Walker, Kansas City, MO, Kermit Walker (Ruby), Oklahoma City, OK, and Oletha Walker, Del Rio, TX. Two daughters, Myrtle Cannady (Joe), Kansas City, MO and Katherine Fields (Kenneth), Haskell, OK. Thirty-one grandchildren, sixty-seven great-grandchildren and fifty-nine great-great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and friends.
The homegoing service for Rodell will be Saturday, March 20,2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Goodwill Church of God in Christ with Elder Terry James of Victory Temple COGIC, Oklahoma City, OK. She will rest eternally in Booker T. Washington Cemetery. The visitation hours will be today from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Services are under the direction of Ragsdale Funeral Center.
