Louise Augsburger passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at the age of 85, due to complications from COPD. Born Ruby Louise Brown to Glenn Brown and Opal Irene Turner Brown in Wolcott, Indiana on September 24, 1924, she was the youngest of three girls whose mother passed away when Louise was only five. She grew up with a love of dancing and a fierce work ethic. She met her future husband, Norman Daniel Augsburger, Sr. while he was an engineering student at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana, and she worked at the book store. They married in 1943. While her husband served his country in the Army, she waited tables at night while going to beautician classes by day. She became a beautician and eventually opened her own beauty shop in Hagerstown, Indiana. Opportunity called them to Muskogee, Oklahoma in the 1950’s where she became an active real estate agent and broker. An avid bridge player and ceramist, she also volunteered at the Five Civilized Tribes Museum in Muskogee, and was a member of the Muskogee Jr. Women’s Forum and the Order of the Eastern Star. Having lived in Muskogee for over 40 years, Louise moved to Houston in 1996 to be nearer her daughter, and became an active resident at the Terrace at Willowbrook.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Norman, and her sister, Lois. She is survived by her sister Vera “Bobbi” Daugherty, daughter Lindy Hamblin and husband, Steve, son Norman Daniel Augsburger, Jr., and wife Kim, grandchildren Chase Hamblin, Morgan Hamblin, Alexa Fritts and husband Jeff, Amanda Slaughter and husband Steven, Amy Augsburger, Jessica Augsburger, and Chance Augsburger, and great granddaughter, Avery Slaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, at Klein Funeral Home, Champions. In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in her memory may be directed to the Five Civilized Tribes Museum, 1101 Honor Heights Drive, Muskogee, Oklahoma, 74401.
