George Washington Denton, Jr.

1934 - 2012

— George Washington Denton, Jr., 78, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. He was born on January 17, 1934 in Haskell, Oklahoma to George Denton, Sr. and MaryLou Pitchford.

George graduated high school from Haskell and received his degree from Draughon Business College. He spent most of his life as a car salesman. He was on the police force for a few years. In 1991, he married Brenda Weatherford Denton. George enjoyed watching football or the Western Channel, playing card games, dominos and volleyball.  He was a member of Boulevard Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Speck Denton, Esther Denton and Rex Denton; sisters: Margarete Roork, Zenolla Sartin, Louise Marshall, Edith Earp, Oliah Poguette, Virginia Oberzalek, Bennie Lorene Wells, Ella Rae Shoemake, Norma Jean Cooper, Ruth Ainlay, Geneva Ferguson and Vinita Riolo.

George is survived by his wife, Brenda Denton; two sons, Jeff Denton and wife Vicky of Fort Gibson, OK; Curt Denton and wife Sally of Muskogee, OK; one daughter, Dianna Brown and husband Eric of Owasso, OK; two step-daughters, Dawn Bryant and husband Eldwin of Kinta, OK, Gena Bass of the home; one step-son, Jason Bass and wife Traci of Muskogee, OK; two brothers, Tom Denton and wife Pat of California, Robert Denton and wife Joann of Muskogee, OK; grandchildren, Tim, Matt and Grey Denton; Annika and Sadie Denton; Will, Ben and Caroline Brown; Ashley Harris; Shawn and Kaden Bass; Seth Bryant; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Grace and Gauge; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2012 at Boulevard Christian Church with James McCracken officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matt Denton, Grey Denton, Shawn Bass, Seth Bryant, Daniel Harris, and David Freeling. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tim Denton, Jay Whitaker, James Burt, Anthony Asmussen, Gerald Brown, and Toby Brantley.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, 6600 South Yale Avenue, Ste. 700, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com
