Ray Rhyne, 88, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013. He was born May 4, 1924 to Noah Oscar and Willie Edith Rhyne in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, Kat of Muskogee; Myrtle Rhyne and their two sons, Ron Rhyne and wife, Judy of Muskogee, Gary Rhyne and wife, Bobbie of Jones, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Ken Rhyne and wife, Sherry, Kel Rhyne and wife, Crystal, Randy Moore and wife, Missy, Angela Christophersen and husband, Noah, Shannon Melot and husband, Mike, Kacey White and husband, Tim, Zach Rhyne and wife, Miranda; fourteen great grandchildren, Kenny Rhyne, Kris Rhyne, Logan Rhyne, Lindsey Rhyne, Deven Melot, Samuel Melot, Emma Melot, Makayla White, Kincade White, Makenna White, Reagan Moore, Dylan Moore, KaQuhan Kirkland, and Ryan Beavers; and father-in-law, Carl Jordan.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Willie Rhyne; two brothers, Harold Rhyne and Bob Rhyne; three sisters, Bessie Ayers, Marie Parnell, and Hazel Isom.
Ray was a lifetime resident of Muskogee County attending schools in Fort Gibson and graduating with the class of 1942. He was a retired Army Cpl of World War II, with the 648th Tank Destroyer Battalion of Company C. Ray served in the “Battle of the Bulge” under General Patton in Germany where he was part of the Tank Destroyer Force. He later received an Honorable Discharge in 1946.
For over 35 years, Ray was one of the few remaining providers of “door to door” delivery of dairy products in the U.S. He provided Carnation and Meadow Gold products to customers all over Muskogee. After retirement, Ray spent a lot of time fishing at Fort Gibson Lake with Lloyd Kelley and reminiscing at Arrowhead Mall with his buddies, Kelly Meeker, Oren Sykes, J.R. Salyers, Phil Stopler, Dewey Owens, Gene Tickle, and Leon Reagan.
Family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with son, Gary Rhyne and grandson, Zach Ryne officiating. Interment will follow at Citizens Cemetery, east of Fort Gibson. Full Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 15 with Carl Jordan presiding. Pallbearers will be Ken Rhyne, Kel Rhyne, Randy Moore, Kenny Rhyne, Kris Rhyne, and Samuel Melot. Honorary pallbearers will be Deven Melot, Zachary Rhyne, Kincade White, KaQuhan Kirkland, Ryan Beavers, and Logan Rhyne.
Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma.
