Dorothy (Dorcus) Ruth Briand, 89, of Checotah, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2012. She was born in Mohawk, Tennessee, to parents, Orriotis and Emma Kirk on June 5th, 1923.
She was united in marriage to Leo Briand on June 9, 1959, and moved to the Eufaula area about 25 years ago retiring as a homemaker. She attended New Hope Church with Pastor Dennis Elder and wife Betty.
She was preceeded in death by her father, Orriotis; mother, Emma; brother, Hugh; nephew, Charles; sister, Otella; brother, Cecil; husband, Leo; sister, Luella; and brother, Glen.
She is survived by nephews, John and Ron Tarver and families; nieces, Kathie Victor, Judith Yarber and families; niece, Margarit Williams and family; and many great great nieces and nephews. She spent her life as a seamstress, and enjoyed caring for all her nieces and nephews. She had a passion for the church, gospel music, and spending time with friends. She was also a great animal lover.
Services pending at Green Lawn Cemetery in Checotah, Oklahoma. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Heart Disease at www.omrf.org.
