Madeline P. (Moody) Miles

1924 - 2012

Madeline P. (Moody) Miles, 87, a resident of Checotah, she was born on March 3, 1924 in Ronceverte, West Virginia. Madeline had 3 brothers and 5 sisters. She worked for Green Giant for many years, where she met and married Edgar Miles and on July 15, 1977 they were married. For nine years she was always by her husband’s side as he drove for CFI. Madeline criss-crossed the country and traveled into Canada. Her and Edgar lived in Humboldt, TN for twenty six years. Madeline loved to read her bible, reading it from cover to cover fifteen times. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church for many years before she and Edgar came to Checotah in the fall of 2011.

Madeline was preceded in death by her parents Charles Moody and Millie (Quick) Moody; son Henry Kerns; grandsons Chad Kerns and Dallas Kerns; brothers Woodrow Moody, Charlie Moody, and James Moody; sisters Ella Mae Moody Ridgeway, Hazel Moody Sheppard, Mary Moody Reynolds and Polly Moody.

She is survived by her husband of the home Edgar Miles; sister, Rose Ann Moody Defibaugh of Lewisburg, WV; daughter, Nancy Artery of Humboldt, TN; sons, Tommy and wife, Sharon Kerns of Sinking Spring, PA, Jerry Kerns of Lewisburg, WV, John and his wife, Kay Kerns of Checotah, OK; daughter-in-law, Lanita Kerns-Firestone; 23 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren; two stepsons, Edgar Allen and David Scott Miles of Pennsylvania.

Graveside funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday February 16, 2012 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, OK. with Reverend Wendell Cox officiating. Pallbearers will be Brian Kerns, Tommy Kerns, John Kerns, Thomas Firestone and Byron Brushwood.

Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Checotah Funeral and Cremation Service.
