Jasper Pondexter

1934 - 2012

Jasper Pondexter, 78, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Friday, November 2, 2012 in Muskogee.  He was born January 8, 1934 in Washington, Arkansas to William Pondexter and Gracey Stewart Pondexter.  Jasper worked for Western Dairy Construction Co. in Arizona where he attended the Pentecostal Church in Jesus Name.  He later returned to Oklahoma where he worked for Tyson Foods from which he retired in 2000.  

Jasper met and later married Hazel King on May 2, 1959 in Cooper, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ruby King, Thelma Jean Fellows, Joella Welch; his brothers, Bradley Pondexter, Fred Pondexter, William Pondexter, Wesper Pondexter, James Pondexter, Ernest Pondexter, Robert Pondexter, J.D. Pondexter, and Charley Pondexter.

Jasper is survived by his wife, Hazel; sons, Demetrius Williams and Lee Andrew King; granddaughter, Toijan Williams; sisters, Lucy M. Thomas, Chearlean Morrison, Rosetta Williams, Luella Swift, Katherine Ford, Patsy Pondexter; a special niece and goddaughter, Vera Thomas Powell; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Wanda Jeffery officiating assisted by Elder James Nelson.  Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee where Gregory McGhee, Oscar Cartwright, Eli McGhee, Tommiros Stevenson, J. T. McGhee, and Walter Betters will serve as pallbearers.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, OK.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com
