David Glover

1938 - 2013

— David Glover, age 74, died February 8, 2013 in Grove, Oklahoma. He was born in Durant Oklahoma April 17, 1938. He began his rodeo career as a bull rider at a very young age of fifteen and never left rodeo until a heart attack forced him into retirement in 2001.

He threw his gear bag in with other Oklahoma bull riders such as Harry Tomkins, Freckles Brown and Jim Shoulders, leaving a small town in Oklahoma for places like Madison Square Gardens, Cheyenne Frontier Days and the Calgary Stampede to name a few. Later he was a mentor to the next generation of cowboys like Bobby Steiner, Don Graham, Marvin Paul Shoulders and brothers Don and Pete Gay and Sandy and Butch Kirby along with many others. When his sons, Scott and Matt, started bull riding he helped bring in yet another generation of Oklahoma bull riders like Daniel James, Cody and B Joe Whitney, and Jeff Boudreau.

Accomplishments: Card holder RCA, PRCA and PRCA Gold Card member, 4 time NFR qualifier, judged the NFR for over 20 years, original team member of Winston Scoreboard, original Wrangler pro rodeo judge, judged the PBR and finals, judged BRO and CNFR college national finals several times and the 1988 Olympic Exhibition Rodeo in Calgary Canada.

What he enjoyed most were all of his many friends. He never tired of telling rodeo stories and visiting with friends.

A memorial service will be held March 16, at 4 pm in Claremore, Oklahoma at The Will Rogers Memorial Museum with Bobby Steiner and Don Graham officiating along with Don Endsley, Donna McSpadden, Sharon Shoulders and Marvin Paul Shoulders.

David Glover is survived by his daughter Ginger and husband Richie Rainbolt and sons Scott and Matt Glover all from Grove, Oklahoma. His grandchildren are Charli and Ross Rainbolt and Kelsi and Cameron Glover.

Memorials may be made to HANDS, PO Box 317, Chelsea, OK 74016 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
