Shirley Ann Burnes

1948 - 2012

Shirley Ann Burnes (Royse), 63, was born September 15, 1948, to Troy and Wilma Royse of Muskogee, OK, died Saturday, February 18 in Ft. Gibson, OK.

She attended Central High School in Muskogee, OK, graduating in 1966. She continued her education at Northeastern State University, graduating with a degree in Education. Shirley taught at Hilldale Schools as an elementary school teacher for 28 years, where she touched many lives as a teacher and co-worker.

She married Kenneth Burnes in Muskogee, OK, on September 2, 1966 and they have been life long residents of Muskogee, Ft. Gibson area.

Shirley was a faithful member of Southeast Baptist Church in Muskogee, OK.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of the home; children, Angela Johnson and husband Greg, of Fort Gibson, and Laura Davis of Fort Gibson; five grandchildren, Ashton Duncan, Cheyenne Johnson, Dylan Duncan, Aubrey Johnson, and Andrew Johnson and one great grandson, Daxton  Duncan; two sisters, Helen Brassfield and husband, Rodney Brassfield of Braggs, Jo Rolland and husband, Kelly, of Muskogee; four brothers, Wayne Royse of Fort Gibson, Jerry Royse and wife, Linda of Muskogee, Ronnie Royse of Muskogee, and Harold Royse and wife, Gail of Muskogee, OK. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Wilma Royse.

Pallbearers are her nephews, Randy Rolland, Dwayne Royse, Brian Royse, Donald Royse, Kelton Randolf, and Joe Burnes. Honorary Pallbearers include, Chris Rolland, Darrin Royse , Greg Royse, Kevin Royse, Jason Royse, Jeff Royse, Brandon Royse, Danny Burnes, Steve Berryhill, and Dustin Duncan.

Services for Shirley Ann Burnes will be at Southeast Baptist Church in Muskogee, OK on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with Gene Sanders officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Muskogee, OK, under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home.
