Verna Lee Walker

1931 - 2012

— A Loving soul has completed her earthly journey for her eternal home on Sunday, December 23rd 2012 at 2:00 am.

Verna Lee Walker was born on September 9, 1931 to Isaiah and Ellinger (Graves) Offord south of Summit, OK; in Muskogee, County. She was the 6th of 10 children born to this union.

Verna Lee Offord-Walker attended Sugar Creek Elementary school in Muskogee, County. She graduated from Moton High School in Taft, OK on May 11th with the class of 1947.

Sometime after Graduating she met and married Lincoln (Beto) Walker. They moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she remained until her health began to fail. The marriage was dissolved after 25 years. Mr. Walker preceded her in death. No children were born to this union.

After moving to Missouri, Mrs. Walker, remembering her faith as a youth, united with St. Stephens Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. remaining a faithful member until her home going for a total of 57 years. She had many certificates of her loyal service.

Verna was a happy person bringing joy to those she met. She never remarried. She had many loyal friends. She traveled all over the U.S. and sometimes out of the country. She enjoyed collecting beautiful dolls and had a nice collection of Barbie dolls. She loved the Lord and trusted in him throughout her life.

Verna was a hard and dedicated worker, sometimes working 2 jobs to provide for herself. After working some 40 years she retired in 1990 from Kansas City Life Insurance Company. She continued to busy herself with occasional part time work caring for others.

As Verna's Health began to fail in January of 2011 she was eventually moved closer to her family in Tulsa, OK arriving on her 80th Birthday, September 9, 2011. She took her move, as difficult as it was, with grace and dignity, not complaining. She was given all the love and professional help possible until she was called to her eternal home.

Those preceding her were her parents and brothers, JB, Willie, Alfred and Charles Offord, her sisters, Bessie Mae Offord and Earnestine Beasley.

She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 brothers and their wives, David and Rhoda Offord and Marcus and Opal Offord. Her sister, Lucille Ridge, all of Tulsa,OK. 19 nieces and nephews and their families, Norman, David Jr, Brenda, Linda, Rhodell, Denise, Lester, Darlene, Joann, Joseph Jr., Roscoe, Glenn, Myneca, Jeff, Michael, Donald, Billy, Marcus Jr., and Angela. One aunt, Etoise Graves, her best friend Delores Robinson, KC, Mo special friends in KC, Mo., a host of cousins and other relatives and the staff at "The Cottage nursing facility" that provided her with loving care.

A Home Going Celebration will be conducted Saturday, December 29, 2012, 2:00 p.m., First Baptist Church Taft, Taft, OK; with Rev. Roscoe Beasley , eulogizing. Interment will follow in Taft Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The family has been cared for by the Winn family at Granger-House of Winn Funeral Home.
