Mable Haws

1912-2012

— Mable (Henry) Haws was born on a farm in Muskogee County, Oklahoma to Thomas and Mary Lou Henry on November 30, 1912.  She was one of eight children.  She had four brothers, Ed Henry, James Henry, Leo Henry, and Ray Henry; and three sisters, Claudia Reese, Maudia who died shortly after her birth, and Inez Ellis who now resides in Muskogee.  She also has many nieces and nephews and an endless number of friends.  Mable resided in Muskogee most of her ninety-nine years.  The last nine years she lived with her daughter, Billie McGee, and her caretaker, Mary Miller in Choctaw, OK until the time of her death.  Mable was a very fun and loving person who had a big heart and was always ready to give of herself to help others when they needed anything.  She was an excellent cook, and loved doing it.  Her specialty was chicken and dumplings, and banana pudding. If a family member came by or someone who would come by her husband’s car shop, she would invite them in to eat.  Mable loved to sing hymns.  She always had a song in her heart.  She visited the sick, cared for her mother and many others in need.  Mable was somewhat of a comedian also.  If anyone came to visit her, when they would leave, she would say, “bicycle hate to see you go cart”.  She had many little witty sayings but when she was serious, you knew that she meant it.  Mable loved her caregivers from Hospice and would carry on some funny conversations with them.  She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  Mable always had a big garden and did lots of canning.  She and her husband, Connie, fished and camped a lot at several Oklahoma lakes.   When her health began failing, she would grow weary.  We would ask her, “Mom, are you afraid to die?”  She would come back with a definite NO.  We would ask her what she was depending on to get her to Heaven.  She would reply, “Why the Lord Jesus Christ, who else is there?”  She was a very dear and precious woman, an example of the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31.   Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Eastern Heights Baptist Church in Muskogee, OK with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
