Donna Featherston

1928 - 2011

Donna Featherston, 82, of Muskogee, left to be with our Lord,  Monday, January 10, 2011 at her home in Muskogee.  She was born December 26, 1928 in Enid, Oklahoma to Jacob and Anna (Tessman) Schmidt, very loving parents who raised her in the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ at the Mennonite Brethren Church of which she was a member.  She made her public profession of faith at the First Baptist Church Vacation Bible School at the age of five.  She began playing the piano for church services at the age of thirteen.

Donna and Jay D. Schale married in 1948. God blessed their home with five beautiful children: Susan, Nancy, Jay, Timothy, and Terry Schale.

Donna graduated from Enid High School, studied at Bacone College and graduated from Northeastern State University with a Master’s Degree in Education, teaching mostly Music at Grant Foreman and Creek Elementary schools.

She received the opportunity to guide so many exceptional students and enjoyed the musical programs they performed. Teaching music gave her great joy.

Donna was State chairperson of OMEA Elementary for two years, president of Muskogee Musical Arts Society for two years and president for State convention for two years.

In 1970, Donna married George Featherston, he preceded her in death on August 15, 2003.  She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Schale- Burnett;  one son, Terry Schale, and one sister, Rosalie A. Berg Berutti.

She is survived by daughter, Nancy Schale-Kremers and her husband, Don; sons, Jay Paul Schale and Timothy Schale and his wife, Donnetta; Kim Schale; daughters, Debra Featherston-Rush, Sheri Featherston-Womack and her husband, Jeff, and Beckie Featherston-Tuteral and her husband, David; her brother, Raymond Schmidt; her sisters, Dorothy Krimm and Jean Grabowski; grandchildren, Jama Sanderson and her husband, Brian; Corey Newberry, Sara Cruz and her husband, Carlos; Sydney Pearson; Molly Schale and Anna Schale; Laura Tuteral and Michael Tuteral; Trey Rush; Taylor Lazenby-Morrison and her husband Michael; Kobi Lazenby; Timothy Jacob Schale; Brieyanah Schale-Newby and her husband Ben; Jennah Schale-Kester and her husband Adam; Derrick Schale; and fifteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2010 at the First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Dr. Lance Sawyer officiating. Friends may wish to remember Donna by making memorials to the First Baptist Church Piano Fund, 111 S. 7th St., Muskogee, OK 74401.
