Carl James Davis

1940 - 2013

— Carl James Davis was born on August 13, 1940, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma and died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 7, 2013, at the age of 72. Carl was married to Linda Joyce Proe on January 21, 1967, and together they had four children, Jeff Davis, Jamie Davis, Janet Pouncil and Jennifer Davis. Carl graduated from Prue High School and proudly served his country in the United States Marines. Later, he received his bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK and then served as the Checotah High School librarian from 1988 through 2006.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, George Ellis Davis and Canzadie (Helen) Wood-Brown, his sister, Yvonne Davis and his niece Tensie Ann Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; son Jeff and wife Susan Davis of Warner; daughters, Jamie Davis of Muskogee, Janet and husband Eugene Pouncil of Checotah, and Jennifer Davis of Muskogee; brother George and wife Tensie Davis of Skiatook; sister Irma Carpenter of Tulsa; and sister Beth Fisher and husband Hank Roshon of Wichita, Kansas. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved deeply.

The family would like to express its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Access Home Health in Checotah for the excellent care they provided.

A memorial and celebration of life service will be held Saturday, February 16th at 2:00 P.M. at Checotah High School auditorium and all are welcome to attend.
