JB Wooten, 82 year old lifetime Checotah resident, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in Checotah. He was born to Harvey Johnston “Earl” and Beulah Mae (Parker) Wooten Saturday, April 26, 1930 in Texanna, Oklahoma. JB grew up in Texanna, Oklahoma where he attended school until the 8th grade. He began working on full-time on the family farm. JB later met, courted and soon married the love of his life Ms. Norma Jean Harmon on Wednesday, June 13, 1951 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. After they married, he worked for the Love Bottling Company from 1952 – 1965, later that year he went to work for Muskogee Iron Work where he made component for towers until he retired in 1992. JB served as a member in Union 584-S where he was a Shop Steward, or (Shopman) for the union. JB loved Blue Grass and enjoyed making music with his country band made up of his family. While making music he was better known by his stage name “JB Henry Wilcox” performing on KBIX, KMUS and KCES radio stations. JB enjoyed Black Angus Cattle and loved his time as a cattle rancher and was a Charter Member of West Side Free Will Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son Darrell Wooten on Thursday, January 7, 2010; daughter-in-law Frances Wooten on Thursday, February 26, 2012; son-in-law Wayne Ratliff; brothers, Arthur, Eugene, Harold and Floyd Wooten; sisters Hazel Sims, Gladys Lane and Earlene Cone. JB is lovingly survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma of the home; daughter Sandra Ratliff; son Henry (Hank) Wooten; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Jeanette, Mildred and Ruby Wooten; one brother-in-law Bobby Gene Lane, numerous nieces, nephews and a community full of lifelong friends. Viewing for JB will be 9AM to 8PM on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Garrett Family Funeral Home.Funeral services for JB Wooten will be held 11 A.M. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at First Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Montgomery officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery under the personal direction of John Garrett. Frank Wooten, Howard Simms, Calvin Wooten, Fred Wooten, Steve Wooten, Randy Wooten, Doug Wooten and Ron Hummingbird will serve as Casket Bearers.
