Opal Ruth Blackaby Thompson

1928 - 2012

— Opal Ruth Blackaby Thompson, 83, of Eufaula passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012 at her home.  Ruth was born on August 29, 1928, in Choctaw, Oklahoma the daughter of Wallace Henry and Florence (Ray) Blackaby.  Ruth graduated from Choctaw High School in 1946 and later received her degree from Connor’s State College in Warner.  In 1947, Ruth married Jim Simpson.   The marriage was dissolved after 42 years of marriage.  She was then married to Homer Thompson for six years before he preceded her in death.  Ruth worked as a manager for Southwestern Bell for thirty-five years.  She was a member of ESA for thirty-five years and also enjoyed being a member of FLEAS and her bridge club.  Ruth was a member of North Fork Baptist Church.

Survivors include:  her daughters, JoLynne Allen, Marie Coe, and Sue Anne Carter and husband Rocky; her grandkids, Stephanie Dabbs and husband Lynn E., Michelle Gamblin, Jeramy Gregston, Nathan Gregston and wife Jennifer and Tashia Gregston and fiancé Alex Rodriguez; her great grandkids, Miles Carson, Anthony (Porky) Dabbs, Lacey Bryant and husband Dakota, Gracelyn, Garik, Gage, and Greelye Gregston and Cohen and Raigan Gregston; her brother, Clyde Blackaby; her sister, Frances Reeser, her nieces, Diana Stephens and husband Ernie, Jenny Clifton and husband Sam and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Homer Lee Thompson, son-in-law, Marvin Coe, and her brothers, Clifford Blackaby, Willard Blackaby, and Bobby Blackaby.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the North Fork Baptist Church with Jodi Cox officiating.  Services are under the direction of Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory.  Online condolences may be made at www.hbmfuneralhome.com.
