Frances June Cope, 90, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Broadway Manor Health Care Center.
She was born on June 9, 1922 in Altus, Oklahoma to Vernon Charles Kale and Elizabeth York Kale. The family later moved to Ada, Oklahoma where Frances grew up. She received her education in Ada graduating from Ada High School in 1941. She attended East Central State College.
Frances corresponded with her sweetheart, Joe Martin Cope, during WWII. After his military discharge she married the love of her life on April 23, 1945.
Joe and Frances resided in Ada until 1958 before moving to Muskogee.
Frances worked for Commercial Finance Company beginning in 1959 and later worked for First National Bank & Trust Company retiring in 1985 as assistant cashier.
Frances was a beloved wife and mother. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Family gatherings were plentiful. Nothing made Frances any happier than going fishing. Many hours were spent on the pond bank in Checotah at her daughter’s home. Her grandchildren named her favorite pond “Mamaw’s Pond” and joined her on many occasions “wetting a hook”.
Frances enjoyed Bedouin Shrine functions with her husband and many friends. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Frances is survived by two daughters, Carol Thomas and husband Mack of Jonesboro, AR and Glenna Stidham and husband Donal (Mike) of Checotah, OK; six grandchildren, Lisa Thomas of Tulsa, OK, Lori Dawson and husband Brad of Maumelle, AR, Keith Thomas and wife Haley of Jonesboro, AR, Stacey Williams and husband Keith of Dallas, TX, Scott Stidham and wife Elizabeth of Sapulpa, OK, and Stewart Stidham and wife Stephanie of Checotah; five great-grandchildren, Tyler Dawson, Madison Dawson and Seth Dawson of Maumelle, AR, Lucy Williams and Leighton Williams of Dallas, TX.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Boyd officiating.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Stidham, Stewart Stidham, Keith Thomas, Keith Williams, Bob Dunlap and Mike Stidham.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2448 E. 81st St., Suite 3000, Tulsa, OK 74137.
Frances’ daughters would like to thank the caring staff at Broadway Manor Health Care Center and Hometown Hospice for their loving care.
