James Terrell Reid Our Father, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Great-Great Grandpa, Uncle and Brother

1921 - 2012

James Terrell Reid was born to Walter and Melinda (Addy) Reid on February 26, 1921. He passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 in Fort Smith, AR at the age of 90. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy Cherity, wife Inez (Wright/Pratt), son Larry Dean, wife Mozell (Martin) and step daughter Judy Ann Pratt-Cochran.

He is survived by son Terry and wife Linda, step-daughter Billie Jean Pratt-Carriker and husband Lonnie; and sister Ruby Taylor. There are four grandson, three granddaughters, eight great grandsons, three great granddaughters, and two great-great grandsons and many other extended family members and friends.

Jimmie was born in Stigler, graduated from Warner High School, worked with and for the City of Warner in many capacities, served as a councilman many years, even serving two months as Mayor. He served 24 years on the Warner School Board, was the first Fireman for the City, ran the Water Department, having laid all of the water lines and meters and read them for years, and was among the first commercial minnow dealers in the state of OK.

Jimmie was a hard worker and a master in many trades; electrical, plumbing, water, water plant, boiler, locksmith and he invented many instruments that made the work load a little lighter and a little easier. He fashioned tools and made keys. He made and gave away many of his inventions, never trying to get a patent or copyright. He was a very gifted and talented man that was committed to the assignment and did not stop until it was done perfectly.

Jimmie started working part time in the maintenance department at Connors State Junior College, eventually becoming Superintendent of Building and Grounds. Men liked working for Jimmie for he did not ask them to do anything that he, himself, could or would not do. He was always the first one to work and the last to leave. He was considered by all as a “workaholic.”

Jimmie was never interested in living anyplace but Warner. It was extremely difficult to get him to go anyplace except to Muskogee and he only would go there for the things he could not possibly get in Warner. He is and always will be a “hometown boy.” He is proud of this little hometown, its citizens and what it has been to him and his family.

A family visitation for Jimmie will be Monday February 20, 2012, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Foster-Petering Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Warner, OK with Rev. Clarence Guthrie officiating. Interment will follow at Warner Memorial Cemetery with Dale Whitby, Troy Duncan, Dale Berry, Larry Todd, Bill Mullins and Roger Thomason serving as pallbearers.

Services are entrusted to Foster-Petering Funeral Home. Friends may share condolences with the family at www.foster-petering.com.
