Elizabeth Edwards

1929 — 2013

— Elizabeth Edwards, 83, of Muskogee, died Monday, February 11, 2013 at Solara Hospital Muskogee.  She was born Elizabeth Lorene Hern in Boynton, Oklahoma to Opal and Thomas Hern.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, brother Thomas, and sisters Edna Floyd and Nedra Schoonover.  She is survived by her sister Betty Howard and devoted husband Howard Lee Edwards of 66 years.  She is also survived by her children, Tom (Deb) and Sandy Pollack (Joel), and many nieces and nephews. She was devoted to and so very proud of her grandchildren Eric (Andrea) Brittany (Dave), Blair, Jessica, Whitney and great-grandsons Ethan and Mitchell.

Liz was a child of the depression and always appreciated what she had.

In her childhood she remembers not having shoes to wear, not knowing what money looked like and having to quit school in order to work in the cotton fields. That’s when she honed her sewing and quilting craft as well as her amazing baking skills.

In order to find post-war jobs Howard and Liz moved to Indiana where they lived and worked for 40 years.  After they retired, Liz from the US Postal Service, they moved to Oklahoma and made Muskogee their home. They loved to travel and Liz had a plate collection from all 50 states and many foreign countries. She was a member of the local antique and coin clubs as well as the ladies auxiliary of the Order of the Purple Heart.  She spent many hours working crossword puzzles and, in her later years, was crazy about their dog, Danny Boy, and watching her team, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Wednesday from  5:00 — 7:00 PM and her memorial service on Thursday at 10:30 AM at Fosters’ Ivory Chapel.  Burial will immediately follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner.  Memorial contributions may be made to any animal rescue shelter.

Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
