Dorthy F. Brown

1927 - 2012

Dorthy F. Brown was born near Hollis, Oklahoma on January 2, 1927, along the banks of the Red River.  She was the youngest of the 9 children (7 brothers and 1 sister) of Charlie and Minnie Roberts.  Soon after her birth the family moved to Clovis, New Mexico where she attended the local schools.  The family then moved to Bakersfield, California when she was a young teen.  There Dorthy met the love of her life, Johnny Brown.  They were married on June 27, 1943.  Soon after their marriage Johnny joined the Army and served in Europe under General George Patton.  Dorthy began a career in nursing at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield that spanned over 20 years of service.  

After retiring Dorthy and Johnny moved back to Oklahoma where they lived at both Checotah and Lake Eufaula.   She volunteered at the Eufaula Hospital gift shop and at God’s Helping Hand.  They became member of North Fork Baptist Church where she loved and was loved by her church family.

Dorthy went to join her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 11, 2012.

Left to cherish her memories are her three sons, Johnny David and wife Mary, Wayne and wife Carolyn, and Larry; her brother, Jimmy; her grandchildren, Steven, Wayne Lee, Johnny Douglas, Kenneth, Jason, and Waylon; thirteen great grandchildren; and a special black and white kitty.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at North Fork Baptist Church in Eufaula, OK., with Dr. Scott Newton officiating being assisted by Brother Byron Kennedy.  Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Muskogee.
