Some champions crowned on day one of Dawson tournament

Muskogee’s Michael Finerty will be busy today.

Not only does he play in the men’s open singles finals at the 21st Dice Dawson Classic at Spaulding Park, but he will be in the men’s open doubles finals.

Before any of that, he awaits the winner of the semifinal. Jared Callahan meets Mike Keliher in the 1 p.m. singles semifinals. The winner advances against Finerty at 3 p.m. for the championship.

In men’s open doubles finals, Finerty will team up with his son Connor and face the duo of Tommy Yadon and Gene Herrera at 1:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Bernie Feickert and Amy Harrison play Ashley Hine and Mary-Ellen Finerty at 3 p.m. in the women’s division. Mary-Ellen is Mike’s wife.

John Martin and Robert McWilliams defeated Dennis Moss and Alex Ford, 6-4, 6-2 to win novice doubles, while Brent Roberts-Hannah Burkett downed Jared Callahan-Ashley Callahan 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 for the mixed open title.

Mike Keliher won the men’s 50-plus singles title by beating Gary Thamason 6-4, 6-3 and then teamed up with Thamasan to beat Tom Twine and Doug Wood 6-4, 6-2 to win in men’s 50-plus doubles.

In 3.0 singles, Craig Hine beat John Eriksson 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 and Toby Feickery-Joe Harrison defeated Doug Pender-Bill Pender 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 in 3.0 doubles.

In youth divisions, Kaleigh Fields and Laura Jardine beat Lindsay Harrison and Emily Sanderline 6-4, 6-4 in 16-under doubles and Maryana Lee beat Kejone Denson in 16-under singles, 9-8, 11-9. Also Christopher Lindsay defeated Scotty Harrison 6-0, 6-0 in 16-singles and Ryan Boos and Seth Chappey beat Will Moss and Austin Ford 7-6, 7-6 in 16-doubles.
