NORMAN — Five Oklahoma Sooners are on the 2008 Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List. The honor is presented annually by the Maxwell Football Club to college football's outstanding defensive player.
The five OU players on the list are defensive end Auston English, defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger, safety Nic Harris, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and linebacker Ryan Reynolds.
English was a consensus All-Big 12 pick last year after totaling 9.5 sacks in just 11 games. Granger started 11 games for the Sooners and finished with 35 tackles. McCoy earned a nod as the Big 12’s Defensive Newcomer of the Year. Reynolds, who graduated from the same high school as OU running back DeMarco Murray, registered 60 tackles last year and is moving to the inside linebacker position this season after playing outside linebacker last season.
Fort Gibson grad Teddy Lehman won the Bednarik in 2003.
