Boynton officials take ‘retreat’ until Tuesday

— Muskogee County District Attorney Larry Moore confirmed Thursday that citizens called him complaining that a Boynton town official and an employee were carting boxes out of City Hall.

When asked what was in the boxes that had been removed early Thursday, he said he was told the boxes appeared to contain documents and some type of computer equipment.

Moore said his office will investigate to determine what was removed from Boynton City Hall.

Already under way are investigations into the town administration for open meeting violations, open records act violations and nepotism.

Boynton town officials posted a sign at 7 p.m. Wednesday on the locked door at City Hall, stating the office would reopen Tuesday.

The note on the door states the city administration, “because of harassment and the inability to carry through with the municipal business, has taken a retreat.

“The administration will consult with lawyers for the filing of an injunction and suits against all individuals and companies that have threatened the citizens of Boynton or have stood against the people through ‘The Color of The Law.’

“We shall continue to uphold anyone who in good faith have supported Boynton lawfully, the health, education and rights of the people.”

The mayor and town manager had ordered the City Hall closed Wednesday. Elected Town Clerk Tiffany Ledbetter was told to go home until Tuesday.

Ledbetter said she received no explanation, but was told to go back to get water bills out Wednesday afternoon. The door of the building wasn’t open to the public while she was doing that, she said.

Mayor Marie Wilson had refused to show public documents or give public information to the Phoenix on Tuesday, saying the clerk would make the requested items public Wednesday. She also said the town manager, Dr. Melvin Easley, would be present to discuss his pay, any contract he had, and other questions.

Instead, the doors were locked.
