TAHLEQUAH — Cherokee Nation’s Sequoyah Schools recently received notification that they have again made adequate yearly progress, according to the benchmarks measured by the No Child Left Behind Act.
All public schools and some private schools are evaluated annually to determine recognition.
“The school’s performance on this particular measure is another appraisal on how well the school is achieving academic excellence,” said Rita Bunch, Sequoyah Schools superintendent, in a media release.
Schools are evaluated on their student enrollment, graduation rate, dropout rate, student achievement in English I, student achievement in Algebra I and highly qualified teachers and administrators.
Schools are compared statewide to other schools. All Bureau of Indian Education schools are required to meet these requirements and academic content standards and student achievement standards to be named an AYP school.
