The Wagoner Police Department released documents identifying two officers allegedly involved in the Aug. 16 fatal shooting of a Coweta man outside a fast-food restaurant.
According to radio logs, Officers Kevin Higginbottom and Jamie Powell reported firing shots shortly after they arrived at McDonald’s. The officers were responding to an emergency call from a McDonald’s employee who reported a disturbance.
The identities of the officers were revealed in documents received Friday in response to an Open Records Act request submitted by the Muskogee Phoenix.
The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office said an autopsy revealed Charles W. Hundley, 59, died of gunshot wounds to the abdomen. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
District Attorney Bryan Kuester, chief prosecutor of Adair, Cherokee, Sequoyah and Wagoner counties, said he expects to release his decision Friday regarding whether the officers’ use of deadly force was justified.
