Fort Gibson High School senior Alexandria Agee has been named one of 100 Academic All-Staters from the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence.
The award is just the latest for Agee, who plans to major in religion at Oklahoma City University. She recently earned a full scholarship at OCU, a value of more than $100,000, said her father, Richard Agee.
The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence announced the All State Award recipients today.
Each of this year’s All-Staters will receive a $1,000 merit-based scholarship and a medallion.
The All-Staters will be recognized at the foundation’s 24th annual Academic Awards Banquet on May 22, at the Renaissance Tulsa Hotel and Convention Center.
“I am just very excited about this,” Alexandria Agee said. “You have to have an ACT score of at least 30, and I had 30, but I guess I had a lot of extracurricular activities.”
Agee is active in the FGHS speech and debate program and plays the flute and oboe for the FGHS band. She said she auditioned for the OCU flute program and was accepted.
“To me, it’s nice to be nominated to one of the top academic awards in the state,” she said. “I feel it stresses the importance of academics.”
To be nominated for Academic All-State, students must meet one of the following criteria: An American College Test composite score of at least 30; a Scholastic Aptitude Test combined critical reading and math score of at least 1340; or be selected as a semifinalist for a National Merit, National Achievement or National Hispanic Scholarship.
“Alex was always excellent in all the things she did,” Richard Agee said. “We just give her the opportunity, like any child, and she takes it.”
Fort Gibson High School Counselor Kirby Milne called Alexandria Agee “a wonderful student, very conscientious.”
“She has a good moral compass,” she said.
