Speaker, concert to celebrate National Salute to Veteran Patients

— The Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center will be celebrating National Salute to Veteran Patients Feb. 10 to 16.  

The public, including veteran groups, military personnel, civic organizations, businesses, schools, dignitaries and the media are invited to visit the medical center during this time.

The purpose of the National Salute program is to:

•    Pay tribute and express appreciation to veterans;

•    Increase community awareness of the role of the VA medical center;

•    Encourage citizens to visit hospitalized veterans and to become involved as volunteers.

The VA will kick off their celebration with a program Feb. 12 with guest speaker and Iraq War Veteran Dax Alcorn who served in Tikrit, Iraq, with the 1-22 Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Division in 2003.

The program will be held at 2 p.m. in the medical center’s auditorium.

For the third consecutive year, the medical center will also treat veterans and their families to a free VAlentines for Veterans Concert.

Country music artist Aaron Tippin will headline this year’s concert, which be held at the Muskogee Civic Center, 425 Boston St. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and will include a pre-concert ceremony at 6:45 p.m. to honor veterans. The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m., is open to the public, and tickets will not be issued or required at the entrance.

Additional parking will be located at Arrowhead Mall in Muskogee at 501 N. Main St. Muskogee trolleys will provide free transportation from Arrowhead Mall to and from the Muskogee Civic Center beginning at 5:30 p.m.
